groups are #overrated in my view, I can achieve the same with #tags. You might feel alone because of the member list :-( I sub more to people than groups. #people create "things" in groups. -

1. If a user you don't follow uses a tag you don't see the post. If they post into a group you do. 2. You can subscribe to a tag on an instance, but that does not get tag usage from any other instance -

You only see the extra posts because the (remote) users are being followed from your instance
