OMGF vranger/vmware is such a chore...
 
Snapshots for vranger backups consume disk space, if a data store fills up then the snapshots get locked.  Then the vm guest wont run properly ...

I found vmfsfilelockinfo which made identifying the host much easier,  then place the host in maintenance mode, then reboot it. 

This cleared the lock, so now I can consolidate snapshots, and start running again.
