no! see `man screen` or `aptitude install screen` if you haven't already. I live in a screen all the time... I maintain loads of long running sessions from it., particularly IRC. No GUI! Some of my friends prefer tmux, but like ... whatever. Any process that you are worried about getting interrupted by network, start "screen" on the remote host, and do what you need. disconnect, and reconnect later.
