@ia42 I guess that's the reason. I have an openwrt router that needs a kernel module, buy they dont support that kernel any longer... So I have to reflash the whole thing, but its 80km away.... -

Google/gmail has this awesome creepy feature where if you search for an airport code and there is a travel itinerary matching that in your email, it will show you a flight status thing. -

Darn Linux. Why do modules have to be so tightly coupled to the kernel version. -

I did have a Linux box ready, but installed the uuid-runtime package and ran uuidgen. Nice shortcut. -

@zoowar perhaps I'm missing the point. I thought docker was about being able run apps with all dependencies satisfied. Grab a prebuilt container, full of crazy ruby gems... Run it. No mention of how to keep all those moving parts in sync other than not maintaining them -

@lnxw48 I find it a bit tedious having to waste energy on knowing 4 different packaging and boot systems. It pays bills but it's not inspiring -

@zoowar I've run debian / fedora systems in linux-vserver, you install a container with apps and a stack. But it needs maintenance. You've got to patch still -

@zoowar the distro package is the fundamental unit of a system application -

@zoowar still interesting. I don't believe in containers. Software artifacts aren't static. They (sadly) require patching and maintaining and the whole bunch of parts that support them is moving too. -

@lnxw48 best wishes... But it's going to be such a chore to run a different distro on the server to desktop. -

@lnxw48 owncloud supports some encryption, by the server app though, so not meeting your requirements. The problem I had with it though is, it generates the encryption key from the user password. And if a user changes password reencrypts the data.… -
